Last year, the D.C. Council approved a new database project that would compile data related to the District’s students, teachers, and schools — currently gathered and kept by numerous disparate government agencies — in one location. The database would allow for greater accountability and enhanced decision-making, as the information used to assess student and teacher performance would be available in one location, along with statistics about schools that may impact their performance. Different components of the project have been scheduled for completion throughout the summer, fall, and next year, but as reported by the Washington Post here, the contractor has been missing those deadlines. The city is working to review and address the lagging schedule, though no word on when to expect the project to be back on track.
