Records Highlight Barry’s Spending

Using an open records request, the Washington Post obtained and reviewed the outside contracts for each D.C. Council member, and discovered that Council member Marion Barry spent more than five times the amount of taxpayer money on such contracts as the next highest amount spent (for the fiscal 2007 through 2009 period, $252,000 to Kwame R. Brown’s $45,000).  The article also noted that Barry’s office had few records demonstrating the benefits received by the city for that spending.
