A group protesting budget cuts to the District’s social services programs pushed their way past security guards outside of the D.C. Council’s closed-door breakfast meeting this morning.  The protestors, part of the Save Our Safety Net campaign, shouted slogans at the Councilmembers before being shuttled out by the guards.  The Council’s breakfast meetings have been a long-time controversial example of the District’s weak open meetings law, with then-Chairwoman Linda Cropp permitting reporters to sit in on the meetings starting in 2006 to reduce the appearance that important city business was being conducted in secret.    D.C.
