Bowser Proposes Limited Public Access To Footage From Body-Worn Cameras – WAMU 88.5

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is proposing that the public be given limited access to footage from the thousands of body-worn cameras that D.C. police are expected to be outfitted with over the next year.

The proposed rules for public access to the footage represent a softening of her stance from earlier this year, when she said that none of the recordings from body-worn cameras should be made available to the press and public. But open government advocates say that her proposal remains too restrictive, and was crafted without the requisite input from an advisory committee created by the D.C. Council earlier this year.
